CHAPTER ONE
A Trip Through Ecuador.
A View That Changed Everything.
Most people ask where the name came from. The answer starts long before the company was founded.
Before launching Cotapaxi, Carl took a trip through Ecuador with a friend who was starting a new travel company called GoEcuador.com. Carl told him he wanted to be his first customer, and off he went.
One evening they were traveling high in the Andes Mountains as the sun was beginning to set. They came around a bend in the road and in the distance stood something Carl had never seen before.

CHAPTER TWO
Cotapaxi.
Neck of the Moon.
His friend explained that it was Cotapaxi, one of the highest and most majestic volcanoes on earth. Its name is Ancient Incan and stands for Neck of the Moon. When the moon rises above the mountain, it appears to rest perfectly on top of it.
Carl simply admired the view, took a few pictures, and continued on with the trip. He had no idea that photograph would eventually become the name of his company.
CHAPTER THREE
Back Home. Developing the Film.
The Name Chose Itself.
Months later, back home and preparing to launch his new company, Carl was struggling to come up with the right name. This was before digital cameras and smartphones. He had finally developed the film from the Ecuador trip and was looking through the photographs when he came across the pictures of Cotapaxi.
Immediately he was transported back to that moment in the Andes. The name felt different. Strong. Memorable. Timeless.
And the symbolism felt exactly right.
A Volcano Is Never Standing Still.
Neither Are We.
Beneath the surface there is energy, movement, creativity, and constant potential waiting to emerge. That is exactly how Carl wanted to build a business, always evolving, always creating, always bringing fresh ideas to clients.

Twenty-Five Years Later.
The Philosophy Remains the Same.
Cotapaxi continues to erupt with new ideas, new products, new partnerships, and the same passion for helping clients succeed that inspired the company from the very beginning.
The mountain may have inspired the name. But the relationships built over the last 25 years are what have given it meaning.
